    David Bowie

Post by Poggy on 11/1/2016, 09:19

Totally shocked with the news this morning.

I thought he would go on forever.

Musically, I think he has touched so many people's lives and I feel privileged to have seen him live.

Such a nice guy, too, by all accounts - my BIL knew him personally.

    RIP Starman.

I know, especially as it wasn't public knowledge that he was ill, and he's just released a new album that's been all over the media. 69 isn't exactly dying massively before time but it was so out of the blue.

So very sad, what a legend.

He will always be The Labyrinth for me.

This is my BIL with David Bowie.
He only posted it on FB three days ago in celebration of David's birthday on 08 Jan.

Malcolm was promotions manager for EMI for many years and was friends with David in the 1980's

    Still reeling...

I can't believe it either, feels like it must be a mistake. I didn't know he was ill, which makes it all the more of a shock I guess.

    What a fab picture Poggy.

I didn't start listening to his music until I was a bit older, as I was terrified of him when I was younger (labyrinth and a weird recurring nightmare I had!) But I got to love him like everyone else, a true original and creative. RIP

Hearing the news this morning was a fucking wrench right in the gut unhappy

I just came back from the impromptu street tribute they were holding in Brixton, and it was genuinely the most emotional 2 hours of my life that I can remember. There was a guy who came with his van and some big speakers and we were all dancing and singing, but then about 11.30, the car battery died. And just when we thought it was all over, a guy jumped on the car with his guitar and we all sang Space Oddity. I was nearly in bits!!! My friend took a video on her phone I'll post it here at some point if people want.

I actually have tears in my eyes reading that, Lettuce.

You are so lucky to have been able to go to that.
I would love to see the video when you can post it.

It was utter disbelief when I found out at 7.20 this morning - half asleep and on my way to the loo, Megan told me and I literally didn't understand what she was saying at first...she had to repeat it 3 times because I thought I had mis-heard her. It just didn't compute and was the last thing I would ever have thought she was going to say.

It was incredible. Lots of good fun too though, playing great dancing tunes like Jean Genie, but Space Oddity and Rock n Roll Suicide were so emotional.

It looked amazing when I saw the images on the news/Newsnight.

Listening to some of the interviews - he was such a witty, intelligent, switched-on guy - I would love to have met him, but the nearest I got was the Sound and Vision tour at the Milton Keynes Bowl in August 1990!

The bit we were at isn't the bit that was on the news I don't think. That was in front of the cinema, and was earlier in the evening. The one I was at was at the other end of the square. I've dloaded the video I just need to work out how to put it here now!

It seems that the 'celebrations' covered quite some area of Brixton.

So glad you were able to be part of them. gerrin

I am disgusted that Celebrity Big Brother are using the death of David Bowie the way they are. The whole drama, the wailing. Shocking behaviour.
