    Toast and jam

Post by Crappy on 11/10/2015, 22:45

Do you put butter on toast if you're also having jam?

I don't do jam I'm afraid but I probably wouldn't - if having beans on that for example I don't butter the toast.

I always butter, even in I'm having peanut butter and jam which is apparently also weird. OH was horrified when I said he was a weirdo for putting jam on dry toast.

Rarely have anything on toast other than butter, but on the odd occasion I have jam or marmalade I do butter first.

No I don't usually, although I don't mind it when I'm served toast with jam AND butter. I feel it gets a bit greasy with BOTH on, and makes the jam too slidey. Now I want toast and jam unhappy

lol This could be me, my dad was always appalled by how much butter I could mash into a baked potato.

It has to be real butter too (or actually we have Lurpack Lighter these days which tastes like actual butter so I will accept this flounce) none of this clover / margarine nonsense.

I tried 'I can't Believe it's not Butter' once - I was NOT impressed. Very false advertising, IMO.

Always butter my toast before putting any cold spreads on whether it's jam, honey, lemon curd, Cheese and Chive Primula or pate. The only time I don't butter is if I'm doing toasted cheese but I will sometimes spread mustard on before I put the cheese on to grill.

Butter is always Lurpak, we use unsalted spreadable or block.

I had marmite (and butter!) on toast when I got in from work thanks to this thread. Lick

Agree with Edie, cheese on toast doesn't need butter first (although mustard sounds amazing!!).

Cheese on toast is rank, so is jam on toast but I would put butter on both

The only things that belongs on toast are marmite or bovril (with butter)

I have never not buttered toast - I would even butter it if I was having Nutella!

I am so having toast with butter and marmite for my dinner tonight!

Nooo I love Marmite (and vegemite) but loads of things are yummy on toast, beans, spaghetti, scrambled eggs, poached eggs, mushrooms, and don't get me started on toasted sandwiches.

I had 4 slices of toast (I figured if 2 is ok for breakfast, 4 is about right for dinner!) and I used a third of a block of butter pig
