    Florence

Post by smartiecat on 2/10/2015, 14:32

My friend and I have booked flights to Florence next April Frolic I know that's ages away but I'm excited Hyper

Anyone been and if so any recs on where to stay, things to do etc - I'm sure we'll do the Duomo, Uffizi, Accademia (to see David) etc, but any tips from those who have been would be welcomed smile

We're flying out first thing in the morning from London City so I need to come down the day before, and I think we'll have an afternoon/evening in London. Any recs of hotels near London City airport would also be good.

I can't wait for all the wine and ice cream! wine

I went many, many years ago in about 1993. It was December, but I really enjoyed the city.
It was an educational from work, so we were spoiled a bit.

Are you flying into Pisa or directly to Florence?
If you are flying to Pisa, then how were you planning to get to Florence. If you are going by train, then do allow yourself time to go and have a look at the Leaning Tower.
If you are flying directly to Pisa - if you do have any spare time, then do jump on the train to Pisa to see the Leaning Tower. I think it is worth it.

I remember being pretty impressed by David. We went to somewhere were we got a fabulous view right over the city - sadly, it is so shrouded by the mists of time that I can't remember where it was, but if you get somewhere up high, the view is beautiful.

Also - you must do the Ponte Vecchio - I loved strolling along there

It is a lovely city and I am sure you will love it.

(I remember some very good food there as well, but have no idea where it was...it was up a lot of steps - not helpful - sorry!!)

Thanks Pogs smile I am very much looking forward to the pasta and ice cream in particular yum We're flying direct to Florence from London City. I would love to see the tower in Pisa but tbh I don't imagine we'll find the time. I am looking forward to just wandering around taking it all in.

You will have a lovely time.

It is not a hectic city (not that I remember anyway) and so you should be able to just wander around, mooching and relaxing. smile

Weird, only part of my reply came up.

Florence is on my wishlist as I loved Rome as hectic as it was. The food was just amazing so not surprised you are looking forward to that:)
